The 2012 Word On The Street Lethbridge Festival
Sunday, September 23 from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch
Founded in Toronto 22 years ago, The Word On The Street Festival creates an opportunity for communities to enhance and enrich a connection to reading and writing in all its forms by showcasing local, provincial and national artistic and literary talent. As the Lethbridge Public Library, our primary mission in hosting this event is to broaden our existing community connection through this festival which is free, family-friendly, and culturally diverse.
The Word On The Street Lethbridge provides programming to appeal to all age groups with the slogan of “Celebrating reading, Advocating literacy” through workshops, panel discussions, musical entertainment, and an author line up that covers all genres of literature – fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children, young adult, and adult.
The national Word On The Street Festival, which now includes Lethbridge, Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax, Kitchener, and Saskatoon, has grown to be a major economic and cultural driver with an overall 2011 attendance of 368,000. Based on Lethbridge’s first year attendance of close to 2000 people, and participation from 45 authors and 17 live music acts we believe that we have built a foundation for the Lethbridge festival to become a signature Alberta event. In 2012 we intend to attract attendance of up to 5000 and invite you to consider taking part in some way.
